My name is Lori and I started Sierra Getaways (formerly known as Tahoe Five Star Hosting) because I fell in love with hosting guests and helping them make the best memories. During our trip to Tahoe for the Boyz II Men retreat, we had an incredible experience staying at Lori’s house. Absolutely gorgeous, beautifully appointed....  well maintained and everything easy to find. We love the West shore and this was one of the best places we've ever stayed in! Kitchen was small but had everything you needed plus the best appliances - we cooked all our meals in. Bathrooms were spotless, you can tell it was recently renovated to a very high standard. Came with my husband and our 2 kids ages 9 and 6, plus our dog. Skied at Palisades one day, super easy to get to.

The house was very nice and a short walk to the shops and restaurants.   It would be a great place to stay during ski season,  unfortunately the mountain closed the day we arrived.  You could walk to a very nice rec center as well.  It was nice to have all the streaming services on the TV.  The kitchen was very well stocked which is important to us since we love to cook.  Lori was very responsive to any questions.

We spent a week at Lori’s home in Northstar. It was fabulous! The space was perfect for our family. There are three bedrooms downstairs, so it felt like our family had our own place. The master is on the third floor where we had our extended family traveling with is stay, which gave them their own privacy. The beds were extremely comfortable! It’s a quick walk over to Northstar Village with several restaurants and shops — and the ski lifts!!! We loved having the perfect place just inside the garage door to store our ski stuff after a day on the slopes. Private hot tub was a huge plus! Thank you, Lori! We will be back.

My family enjoyed our stay at Lori’s beautiful Truckee townhome. It was very clean, well-equipped, and tastefully appointed. The location is fabulous as it’s walking distance to Truckee town’s lovely restaurant and stores. We enjoyed walking to town after a day of skiing at Palisades. We recently stayed in this beautiful condo with our family of four. The view was absolutely stunning, entire home was spotless, and we were very happy with the extra amenities and details. There was a fully stocked kitchen, Nespresso machine, soft towels, comfy beds, nice soap in the bathrooms, games/books, etc. We loved being able to enjoy the heated pool and sauna - one of the best parts of Brockway Springs. We would definitely stay again!

Positive: Very clean and cozy mountain side condo providing ski in/out access to Northstar Village via the Condo Run off the Village Run. The condo was very clean, with modern furnishings, full kitchen utensils and large refrigerator. The pull out sofa bed received no complaints from my daughter. The main bed was very comfortable as well. We were able to walk to and from the Village when not snowboarding. We had an amazing weekend of snowboarding and loved this condo. We will be back.

Negative: Walk to gondola was an exercise. Some items in  condo needed repairs. Downstairs shower needs glass door, curtain leaks on floor even when closed.

Lori was a great host very friendly and quick responses! It was exactly as described and accurate to the photos! Perfect for our family of 5 the kids loved the loft and projector screen! You can’t get any better than this location we walked right outside to the gondola and all the restaurants are close to get to, steps away. All you need is right there in the village!  We are already planning our next trip back!

Everything was as the description stated, and 7 of us fit in the house and had a great stay! Lori was accessible and friendly. We were walking distance to the lake and a short drive to various ski resorts. The jacuzzi was a highlight for us. It is shared with other residents, and was a little busy at times, but it was fun to meet other people in the complex. I would definitely come back!
Our only minor recommendation would be more mirrors; there were no mirrors in the bedrooms and no full-sized mirror anywhere in the house, making it a little difficult for more than one person to get ready at a time.

Truckee container house is so awesome. I honestly wish I could live here. The house has a great flow and more than enough amenities. The large windows in the living area were perfect to watch the snowfall. Lori is such an amazing host too. My Fiancée, dog and I had a peaceful stay. We enjoyed the snowfall and felt very cozy at Lori’s place. The cabin has everything you need. We ended up cooking a majority of the time during and found all the appliances to be useful. The bathrooms and bedrooms were very clean. We liked the dog friendly layout as well. The dog bed in the living room was a plus. The back yard is fenced in and had plenty of space for our pup to roam around. There were even sleds available to use for. I think north Tahoe is where it’s at, especially if you are trying to get away from staying in a congested area. Restaurant selection is mostly American cuisine. Overall we were very happy with our stay.

A sizable storm came in while during our stay. Lori was super proactive looking for options in case we had trouble getting out due to weather and came up with options to extend our stay if needed in another unit. She allowed us a slightly later checkout, which gave us enough time to let some of the snow clear and travel safely home. She had guests coming the same day so we offered to help by doing a little extra cleaning to make sure  her cleaners could get their job done in time for the next guests.

This home is amazing. It was a perfect place for a family ski weekend. We comfortably fit our whole family and were within walking distance to the slopes. The home was spotless and had everything we needed - blankets, kitchen equipment, hot tub, etc. Lori was an incredible host. We are already planning our trip for next year and will be booking this place again!

Very disappointing
Negative: When we arrived at 4:30 the handyman was there fixing the dryer, he told us he would return to complete the fix but never did; therefore, no dryer for the stay. It made it difficult to go the beach and pool and not have anyplace except the outdoor railing to hang wet towels and bathing suits. It was warm in the house and on the wall near the front door was what appeared to be a wall heater that had a fan option.  I thought that I would turn it on to get some air moving in the cabin and open the slider.  Upon turning it on, it sparked and I immediately turned it off.  I emailed them to let them know what had happened and that it was a safety issue.  Did not get any response.
The pictures on the website do not reflect the cabin, especially the lighting.  The front room is very dark and the lighting is no conducive to reading in the evening.
Right back burner on stove does not work.
 No screens on some windows for ventilation. My husband found the kitchen screens on the ground behind the house along with the bottom bedroom screen which was broken. He put the kitchen screen on the window so we could open it for air.  
The screen on the slider needs to be replaced as it is bent and the screen is ripped. 
There were no kitchen towels. There were no washcloths for 6 people (2 children which made bathing them hard). 
The upstairs bathroom will need a window covering when the house behind is completed or they will be able to look into the bathroom. 
Some of the blinds need to be replaced as we were unable to open them .  
Upon departure we were asked to start a load of towels but there was no laundry soap, it was a good thing that I always have laundry sheets in my luggage to I was able to start the load of towels.

We really enjoyed this cabin in beautiful Truckee. The front porch was fully fenced in which was great for our kids. We had fun with all the vintage puzzles and were able to cook all our meals in the fully equipped kitchen.

Cozy cabin
Positive: Lots of room and very kid friendly (bunk beds, games, crayons, etc.). Parking was easy and property was well maintained. Lori was attentive and provided all necessary information up front. Beds, blankets, and towels were super cozy and plentiful. The appliances worked well and lots of dishes provided for use. The heater worked great!
Negative: This home is very dated and many of the images are of a center that is not on the property. The carpet, lounge chairs,  and many appliances and fixtures throughout the home are easily from the 70’s-80’s (fine for a bathroom, I’d hate to imagine the actual cleanliness of the carpet and upholstery). The downstairs bathroom had a plastic sheet shower curtain (no door as in the picture) that did not keep the floor dry. The “HOA amenities” are a 10min drive away and cannot be accessed without paying 20$ per person each time you want to go. So we didn’t.  But the Trout Creek Center looked nice!

Only one issue we had was getting onto the WiFi. Took a couple messages from the hosts and a couple tries but that worked out well.
